‘Falcon and Sun Disc’ by Laura Crean. This painting is from my Egyptian phase. I copied it from the book ‘The Illustrated Egyptian Book of the Dead’ by Dr. Ramses Seleem published by Godsfield Press in 2001. The following description is taken from the book ” Here, a falcon is depicted with a sun disc over his head and a cobra encircling the sun. This is the symbol of Mars, the guardian star, which appears on the horizon at both dawn and sunset. The name of Mars is Ra-~Heru-Akhety, or the light of the two horizons. Four baboons are depicted in front of the symbol of Mars, in adoration pose, and there are three baboons behind, in the same posture. These seven baboons together represent the seven spirits of dawn, who evoke the seven powers in nature every day. The Djed is depicted below the falcon, representing the spinal column of Oser (Osiris), the four elementary systems of the human body (the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, and nervous systems.) The four winds, the four cardinal points, and the four main organs, which are called the sons or children of Heru (the lungs, stomach, intestine, and liver). The two arms appear from the Djed. The right arm holds the Nekhekh scepter, the symbol of the North and strength, while the left arm holds the Heqa, the emblem of the South and the symbol of rulership. Est (Isis), Oser’s wife, stands on the right side of the Djed and Nebt-Het (Nephthys), Est’s sister, stands on the left. In front of the falcon, Ra-Heru-Akhety, a line of text is written:”The spirits of Dawn adore you, O light of the two horizons.” Behind the falcon is written: “Adoration to the light of God, when it rises over the horizon.” In front of Est is written: “I am your sister, Est, the divine mother.” In front of Nebt Het is written: “I am your sister Nebt-Het”.
‘Evolution of Mankind’ by Laura Crean. Another of my Egyptian phase paintings, ‘Evolution of Mankind’ is copied from the book ‘The Illustrated Egyptian Book of the Dead’ by Dr. Ramses Seleem published by Goldsfield Press in 2001. The caption in the book reads ” The Djed colonade, representing the evolution of mankind, the baboons, representing the spirits of dawn, all standing under heaven.
‘Pyramids in Shadow’ by Laura Crean. My first attempt at painting pyramids – it’s a bit wobbly but I like it.
‘Pyramids illuminated by the sun’ by Laura Crean. Another attempt at pyramids with a sparkly sun, painted in sandy colours.
‘Stone-Henge’ by Laura Crean. My first attempt at a Stone-Henge painting with a sparkly sun and a purple sky.
The Power of Prayer – Acrylic and silver pen – one of my more spiritual paintings
‘Martian Dream’ by Laura Crean. This painting was inspired by a photo of the Martian surface that I saw on the Nasa website. The shadows and shapes of the surface in the picture seemed to show this image to me and that is why I have used very warm, what I think are Martian colours. I will not however give you any more description but will leave that up to your own imagination.
Alternate Universes – acrylic and glitter pens on canvas – this is one of my crop circle inspired paintings
