Some days, like today,
sleep sneaks up on me
and weaves a chilling charm.
It catches me up unawares in a mist of oblivion
that slows down time,
and leads me into darkness.
Like a thief it steals my consciousness
and my energy.
Like some vampire spirit
it sucks me dry
and I have to fight my way back
to the land of the living.
It eats the hours with its voracious appetite
leaving me disoriented and drained
and mourning wasted opportunity.
I stumble back into my daily dimension of the mundane.
